Joseph asks…
Photoshop brushes……?
I’ve downloaded a bunch of different brushes for Photoshop CS3 extended. My friend wants some of them but I dont know where they’re stored. I looked in program files, adobe, photoshop etc but i didnt see anything there which looked like brush files.. Where do they get stored?
Im pretty sure only the default brushes are in the presets, brushes folder. I’ve downloaded many more brushes but they arent in that folder..
mikey answers:
Do a search for “.abr” files (although some brushes can be .png files most will be .abr).

Susan asks…
Photoshop Brushes?
Is there a way to convert different photoshop version made brushes for another version…cause i just a loaded a bunch of excellent brushes and i cant use cause i have Photoshop 7 and most were made in Photoshop CS and higher…Would yall please help?
mikey answers:
Perhaps someone else can tell you, but I am thinking you are just out of luck. Adobe wants to keep selling upgrades to photoshop. If it were possible to just keep adding features to older versions, then obviously Adobe would be losing lots of money. People would just keep downloading features to their old versions and never pay to “upgrade”.
Obviously Adobe designs Photoshop to not allow it to accept fragments of any newer version.

photoshop brushes?
I have a project where I need to make a restaurant menu. I’m using photoshop but i can’t find any brushes I like. Any good sites where I can download brushes for free?
mikey answers:
I know I personally have a lot of brushes from PureAnodyne, but when I’m looking for a specific type of brush, I just Google “free photoshop brushes” plus whatever you’re looking for. There are lots of good sites out there that offer quality stuff for free. Usually the artist just asks that he/she be credited when their work is used for anything to be displayed to the public.

Chris asks…
PHOTOSHOP BRUSHES !!?
i have photoshop adobe elements6 and when i install the brushes they never are saved !!! wat should i do !
mikey answers:
I really hate to do this because once you learn how to save and load brushes, you’ll become just as addicted to new brushes as the rest of us are;-) I don’t know if you have Windows or Mac or what you did wrong when you tried to install the brushes so will pretend you have Windows (because I do) and we’ll start with step one.
Make sure PSE isn’t open.
1. Download the brushes zip folder to your computer (I use the Desktop). Right click on it, then click on Extract All. In the dialog that pops up, click on the Extract button and then click Finish to exit. Find the extracted folder. It will have the same name as the zip folder and be in the same place as the zip folder but it’s usually never right next to it.
2. Right click on an empty place on your desktop, scroll down to New and then up to Folder and click. The New Folder will have a flashing cursor. Type PSE BRUSHES to name the new folder and press Enter on your keyboard. Drag and drop the zip folder into this folder. Depending on how often you download new brushes, put all the zip folders into this folder and every month or two months copy it to a disc for backup. If you put the brushes into the program and then have to uninstall/reinstall or if your computer goes belly up, you’ll loose all the brushes you’ve installed. If you’ve got the zip folders in you PSE BRUSHES folder all safe on a disc you can re-install them if you have to.
2. Now, because I don’t know what operating system you have (XP, Vista or Mac) I can’t tell you exactly the path to your brushes folder but I can give you an idea. Click on Start, then All Programs, then Accessories. Scroll down to Windows Explorer. In Vista, you get Windows Explorer when you open Pictures and Documents (easier). Find Computer in the list and click the +, C: and click its +, Program Files and click the +, the Adobe +, the Photoshop Elements 6 +, Presets+ and scroll down and click on the word Brushes. Minimize the window to expose your desktop. Right click on the extracted folder and click on copy. Maximize the window and right click on an empty space in the area displaying the brush files and click on Paste to copy the folder. Close the window.
Clean Up: Drag and drop the extract brush folder on the desktop into your PSE BRUSHES folder for safe-keeping. Open PSE. Open a photo or a new file and click on the brush tool. Up in the Options Bar click on the Brush Picker dropdown (next to the picture of the brush). Click on the Brush styles dropdown – it usually says “default” and find the name of your new brushes in the list. Click on the name to load them.
I hope this helps….It’s only difficult the first time you do it.
