Your Questions About Images Of America

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

Chris asks…

Which candidate do you think will appeal to people outside of America?

America‘s image is in shambles the same way it’s economy is plummeting. Which candidate do you think will clean up the image of America?

Remember this is not about which candidate is best for the Americans. I for one really care about our country’s image, I still remember the times I’ve visited Europe and felt the strong Anti-American sentiments, despite the fact that I didn’t even vote for Bush.

No immature answers please

mikey answers:

I think Obama will be very diplomatic. He was VERY well accepted on his trip to Germany. McCain on the other hand….well I don’t know how to say it other than he just wants to start a lot of wars. I don’t see how that will help America’s standing in the US.

Joseph asks…

Should the President have the right to keep secret the images of body bags coming back to America?

Should the President have the right to keep secret the images of body bags coming back to America? Is it possible that President Bush is doing to keep being able to keep recruitment of new soldiers possible. There has been a lot of controversy about the Patriot’s Act, and the attendant loss of individual rights and privacy. What are your comments about this?

mikey answers:

As an Ex Soldier, I want to know why should images of soldiers coming home be made public? Show some damn respect. Also they do not come home in “body bags” but proper coffins.

The Military has a right to keep damn media out of something which should be kept DIGNIFIED, these fallen heroes do not need to be splashed all over media.

You do not need to see it, when its reported everyday a running score by the liberal media. So no I do not see why the public has to see everything.

Sharon asks…

Images or advertisements that show foreign countries’ perceptions of what America is like?

I’m writing a paper on the differences in how America promotes itself through advertisements, television, etc. and how other countries perceive America and what America really is. I would like to find an advertisement from another country that shows the negative feelings and perceptions many foreign countries have towards America. I know i’ve seen images in the past but cannot think of any specific ones. links to images or descriptions of ones i could look for would be appreciated. thanks!

mikey answers:

I’m not sure if you wanted current images or past ones but you can surely find Soviet propoganda. Here’s a website for it http://englishrussia.com/2006/09/20/soviet-propaganda-against-usa-posters/ and also just look for anything in coutnries we have been in war against or have had issues with, maybe Cuba? Http://www.hobotraveler.com/travel-journal/cuba-anti-american-propaganda.html

Lizzie asks…

What is the image of America?

Anyone have an idea of what the image of america is? I’m thinking of taking a photograph that shows the image of america, any ideas? thanks!

mikey answers:

The image of a country of 300 million people in a single photo… Come on, you can think of something more challenging than that. How about lassoing the moon, or tunneling to Java from Toledo, or changing the rotation of the Earth.

Donald asks…

Why do you think the rest of the world has such a poor image of America? Could it be the rampant racism?

No its not jealousy its fear as a Canadian I do not understand why America has such a huge problem with racism and hate towards anyone that isnt white. Canadians live side by side with minorities why is America so filled with hate I ask myself this all the time. Your economy is going down hill, people are loosing their jobs and their homes. Why would anyone be jealous.

mikey answers:

I am a Canadian . I drive in the states 5 or 6 days a week.
Parts of the states each state is really awful so poor so crime infested . The states is a strange place thinking they are the best . I often think how can they think that . Have they not looked at the rest of the world at all.
The practice of getting involved in other nations matters is the reason they are not well liked. The states should finish up with Iraq soon then bring every last military person home and keep them home then focus on fixing the horrible mess there own country is in.

Your Questions About Pictures Of Chickenpox

Friday, February 17th, 2012

William asks…

I SERIOUSLY need anwers……Chickenpox?

I’m asking this Q again because nobody was answering……..I really need help :(

I was round a friends house about a week ago and her little brother had had chickenpox. They were scabbing over so mum thought I’d be ok (she’s an ex RN). But…..I’ve got these little red spots on my hips and down my lower back and three on my bum (they itch a bit :S) as well as a few little ones on my stomach. There are only a few, not plastered everywhere like you usually see, but more have shown up overnight.
My shoulderblades and upper back itch like crazy but I don’t know if I have spots there, I haven’t checked. I was feeling really queasy and hot yesterday and I feel faint whenever I stand up. I’ve got school tomorrow……do I have chickenpox? I’m 12 nearly 13 and never had them before.

Thanks!

PS: This is what some of them look like…………..

Mine are feeling a bit like scabs and the texture of sandpaper. They’re a bit more red than the ones pictured, too.

mikey answers:

You seriously need to inform your mama to tell about your chicken pox. Yeah, you have a chicken pox.

Daniel asks…

Normal for gland to be up 1 mth after chickenpox?

I had chickenpox about 4 weeks ago (I’m 30) and felt pretty sick. My glands were up: in neck (under jaw), under arms, behind ears and even at the back base of my skull. My eyes hurt – all that is normal of course because chickenpox is a pretty nasty virus.

When all my glads were up, I noticed that one was also up in the side base of my neck – picture where Dr Frankenstein’s monster had the bolts and that’s where I’m talking: base of neck, just above the collar bone.

All my other glands have gone down (from what I can tell), but there’s still a “lump” in my neck. It seems to have gone down a little in the last week but I keep prodding it – so I guess I am probably not helping matters.

Is it normal for glands to still be up aprox a month after a viral infection? I’ve tried to research this – from what I’ve read it can take anywhere from a few days to a month+ for glands to go down?

ps: I work with children (have colds often) and have done a lot of international travel lately
ps: maybe I made the node/gland sound higher up than it is. it’s about where my neck touches my shoulders.

pps: my face/scalp/neck had the most “pox”

mikey answers:

Speak to your doctor, people cant diagnose you with any problems unless they actually see it and have a look.

Linda asks…

Ladies can you please tell me if this article is true and accurate.?

Faced with picture of men with and without different scars, women rated the scarred faces as better looking, but scars did not enhance women’s attractiveness to men.

“This is the first study to demonstrate that under certain circumstances post-traumatic scarring may increase a person’s perceived social worth,” say the researchers from the universities of Liverpool and Stirling.

“Our results suggest that under certain circumstances scars may advertise valued information about their bearers, and that the idea that scarring universally devalues social perceptions can no longer be assumed to be true.”

In the study, published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences, around 220 people were asked to look at pictures of men and women, some of which had been manipulated to have different scars.

Results show that scarring enhances women’s ratings of men’s attractiveness for short-term, but not for long-term, relationships. Men’s ratings of female attractiveness were unaffected by scarring.

Exactly why women favour scars is not clear, but one theory is that they provide visible evidence of past trauma and may also communicate information about the man’s history and personality, as well as affect their attractiveness.

It has also been suggested that scarring associated with violence may signal to a woman that the man has a risk-taking personality or above average masculinity, both of which might appeal to women for short term relationships. Because of that, scars may indirectly be a sign of good genes or a strong immune system that also appeal to women for short-term relationships.

The scars that are rated attractive are those that appear to be associated with post traumatic events or violence of some kind.

“Scars that indicate past illness like chickenpox, acne, or surgery scars, and which therefore suggest a weaker immune system, may be viewed more negatively than other types of scarring,” says the report
especially the part about acne scars being viewd as a weak immune system. Thanks for your help.

Maria asks…

Help. My mom has some rash going on!?

Ok, Sunday morning my mom woke up with all of these red bumps all over her body. They were on her scalp, neck, and face, and stomach. Yesterday some of them turned to blisters and they have clear and white fluid in them. She has taken many baths and they itch like crazy- she cant stop itching them even after putting on caladryl lotion. She has taken benadryl but it hasnt helped to stop the itch or help her sleep. Everyday they get worse and seem more red. They also spread to new areas. Today they have spread to her legs and are starting to work up to her hands. She cries because they are painful and when she sleeps they feel like needles being stuck into her. I know that like 2 days before she noticed th spots, she felt terrible. She spent the whole day laying down and felt fluey and nausea. She said she had stomach pains and a bad headache as well. We are all worried because each day they seem to spread to different places. Her whole body is covered with them. She went to the doctor yesterday but the doctor wasnt available so she saw the nurse practicioner. She couldn’t figure out what the cause might be. She was clueless but prescribed my mom with amoxicillin and some steroid which would be treated for strep throat even though she didnt have it. Most of the bumps are turning to blisters with liquid of some sort inside and a couple look crusted over. We are beginning to wonder if it could be Chicken pox. She honestly doesnt remember if she got a chicken pox vaccine when she was little?? Throughout the day it seems that more appear and within a couple hours a couple new ones appeared on her hand. She is 36. Can you tell me if this picture looks like she has chickenpox?? http://s1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee421/computech96/?action=view&current=Capture.png If it is how long do you think it will last for… She is upset and embarrassed b/c she cant go out or anything.. Lizzie asks…

I bet you can’t find me a nice prom dress….?

…that doesn’t reveal my back.

My senior prom is coming up in 3 weeks, and all the nice dresses are always “backless”.

I’ve got really bad chickenpox scars all over my back, so I’m after something that would cover most of my back.

Any suggestions?

Links to pictures would be appreciated!

=)

mikey answers:

In Nilla’s answer i would go with the 2nd promgirl dress, thats heaps nice and it would be flattering for most body types.
Good luck with your prom, im sure you’ll look great.

Your Questions About Images Of Jesus

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

Donald asks…

was there a drink campaign that used images of jesus in a pool in the back of a taxi and playing pool?

I think it was a south american drink, maybe rum. But I do know it used “Christ the Redeemer” – the statue at the top of the hill in Rio and places the contemporary figure of jesus in various scenes, such as sitting at the edge of a pool, in a snooker/pool hall holdind the cue behind his back and in the back of a taxi, all images with his arms outstreched!

mikey answers:

Yes

Jenny asks…

I’m an agnostic; is it alright for me to wear this wooden bracelet with images of Jesus and Mary?

I purchased this beautiful bracelet in Spain when I went there on a tour. Where I live in Asia, people don’t seem to mind when they see others wearing such bracelets/rosaries. But I’ll be moving to the States soon, and was wondering if Christian people would find this offensive?

Thank you in advance!

mikey answers:

What lettuce said.

George asks…

What can you say about the popular images of Jesus?

If you will critic this.
1. Jesus as the Son of God and the Son of Mary
2. Jesus as the Host
3. Jesus as the Suffering Servant
4, Jesus as the King
5. Jesus as the Miracle Worker

mikey answers:

That’s perfect. However, for what he seemed to look like, visit Him in oldest icon in Mt Sinai, Egypt.
Notice His left judgment eye and merciful right eye. It is awesome.

Michael asks…

Christians or others – If your toast has images of Jesus and Mary, what kind of sandwich do you make?

I like a good BLT.
.

mikey answers:

Grilled cheezus

Sharon asks…

Why do Christians accept pictures of Jesus when it goes directly against the Bible?

First of all, creating images of Jesus goes directly against the Bible:

Ex 20:4 “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:”

Sounds to me like no images of anyone or anything in Heaven should be presented as an image.

Second, nobody has ever seen Jesus so it is ridiculous to create an image. Especially when the images that we see are of a man with brown hair and blue eyes most of the time. This is the only physical description of Jesus in the Bible:

“His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire” Revelation 1:14.

This is clearly the description of an albino. Albinos have white hair and pink eyes (“flames of fire”).

Is this the ultimate in bearing false witness? Presenting an entirely falsified image of your Savior? How does it get much worse than that?
@John. Seriously? You actually think that Christians do not have pictures of Jesus in their homes? No nativity scenes? Mormons even put pictures of Jesus in their homes. It is hardly just a Catholic thing.
@Ruth. Saying “lighten up” is not “turning the other cheek” as Jesus instructed you to do. Nor is it “loving your neighbor”. It is rude and unkind. The images of Jesus are never of someone with white hair and eyes that look like flames. My point is that based on this description, he would have probably looked more like an albino than a dark haired, tan man. Regardless, the images should not exist anyway. Stop making excuses for it. It is against the Bible.
@Galet09, your rude argumentative stance is not “turning the other cheek” or “loving your enemies” as Jesus instructed you to do. Saying “mind your own business” is being rude and unkind. Did you listen to anything that Jesus taught? How hard is it to understand “thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images“? Graven means cut or impressed onto a surface. The “bowing down” part is additional to the creation of the image. Were you there when God stated this Commandment? Did he give you first hand knowledge of what he meant or are you just making assumptions?
@Matthew Guthrie, calling my words “stupid” is not being kind as Jesus taught you to be. It is also being argumentative and you are supposed to turn the other cheek. The Bible clearly says that images of those in Heaven are not supposed to be produced. There is no disputing it. Unless you were there when God was telling Moses what to write on those tablets.
@James 3:10, so then are we to assume you are the only true authority on the subject? As far as your comment “pronouncements about this or that being against the Bible are suspect. They tend to lack authority and tend to be “new” with no history of Christian agreement.” So, Christians are the ones who assume God’s word then, not God…correct? As long as they are in agreement with something, then that makes it “truth”. This is the way the Bible was created. Men wrote stories and certain people chose what was to be the “truth”. This is clear PROOF that MAN is deciding what is or is not truth. Thank you for confirming it.
@Galet09, first of all, you are still arguing and not turning the other cheek. Second, I am not a Christian and do not believe in any religion that says I am not supposed to judge others. Therefore, I can judge all I like. I even believe in having a judicial system, police, jails and prisons. I believe in judging others, it is how we keep pedophiles and killers off the street. Expecting others not to judge is as unrealistic as believing that burning shrubbery can speak.

mikey answers:

Good question! I have never allowed pictures supposedly of the Lord in our home, or even in children’s Bible story books. I consider that to be against the second commandment.

Your Questions About Photoshop Cs5

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Daniel asks…

Can you install photoshop cs5 for both windows and mac?

I’m planning on buying Photoshop CS5 and right now I have a Dell laptop but I know I’m buying a Mac in a year. Will I be able to download photoshop on both the windows and mac computers?

mikey answers:

No, the PC version of Photoshop won’t install on a Mac. Once you get Photoshop though, you can check out http://psdpixels.com for free Photoshop resources.

David asks…

How do you start the photoshop CS5 extended trial?

I just downloaded the adobe photoshop CS5 extended 30-day trial. But I dont understand, how do you start the program? I see these tons of files when I search my programs for it, but I am not sure what to click to start and use it. Can anyone help me? A step-by-step or video would be appreciated!

Thank you!

mikey answers:

To download

Ken asks…

What’s the difference between Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Elements 9?

I want to buy Adobe Photoshop, and I have seen two different ones; CS5 and Elements 9. What are the difference? Elements 9 is cheaper, by about $75.
And which is the best one to buy?

mikey answers:

Photoshop Elements is fine enough for most casual work.

Regular Photoshop is preferred if you are going to make a career out of graphic design. It offers more options for professional printing, vector paths (that can be used in Illustrator), some more complicated filters and adjustments, can handle larger images, and offers scripting for automated editing.

There are 30-day trials for both programs available. I’d try Elements first to see if you’re able to do everything you need:

http://www.photoshop.com/

Keep in mind that if you don’t have a prior version of Photoshop, you have to buy the full $700 version, not the upgrade version.

Paul asks…

How to install adobe photoshop cs5 from a cd?

I want to install my adobe photoshop cs5 from a cd . But i don’t know how to. Someone please help me by giving the right Answer.

mikey answers:

Insert the cd. Run setup . Choose the location to install. Inset keygen and agree the software and install, :)

Linda asks…

Where does a Photoshop CS5 trial store files relevent to the trial?

I was talking with a colleague the other day about the scripting and core files of the Photoshop CS5 trial, and we were wondering where exactly on a Windows computer Photoshop stores files that are crucial to the trial itself, not necessarily the whole program. Are they in the registry, Program Files folder, etc? We appreciate any help!

mikey answers:

This answer isn’t specific to CS5 but there were security issues with CS4 being hacked into a full working version from the trial version by replacing the “amtlib.dll” file found in the Photoshop program folder.

I believe the same hack worked within most of the CS4 creative suite.

I would imagine this would of been fixed in CS5. That piece of information isn’t a full answer for you but might make a Google search more specific when looking for an answer.

Your Questions About Photosynthesis

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Laura asks…

Which of the following statements best describes the relationship between photosynthesis and respiration?

A) Respiration is the reversal of the biochemical pathways of photosynthesis.
B) Photosynthesis stores energy in complex organic molecules, while respiration releases it.
C) Photosynthesis occurs only in plants and respiration occurs only in animals.
D) ATP molecules are produced in photosynthesis and used up in respiration.
E) Respiration is anabolic and photosynthesis is catabolic.

mikey answers:

A because the first half of b is tru (carbs) but the second half is false and C plants respirate, and d,e are just flat outright incorrect.

Sandy asks…

What can be a problem for this photosynthesis/respiration experiment with bromothymol blue?

This is for a laboratory report.

It aims to determine the relationship with photosynthesis and respiration. I actually know that already, but I can’t think of a suitable problem to this experiment.

Here’s the procedure:
1. Measure 50 mL bromothymol blue solution for 2 beakers.
2. Blow on these solutions until it changes color.
3. Place elodea in each beaker. Cover it with a petri dish.
4. Put a beaker in the closet and the other outdoors.
5. Observe.

Photosynthesis and respiration are exact opposite processes. Respiration occurred in the closet, but photosynthesis did not because there wasn’t light. Bromothymol blue is a chemical indicator for pH. What can I put as a problem in my report?

Please answer ASAP. :) Thank you.

mikey answers:

What is one environment has more carbon dioxide than the other naturally? This would indicate more respiration than actually occurred. More oxygen in the environment would lead to an assumption of more photosynthesis. What if being in the dark or light affected not only the rate of photosynthesis, but increased or decreased metabolic demands on the cell, changing the rate of respiration also? Sometimes, when coming up with a possible problems section of a paper, you must take into account things that are nearly impossible, because you never know what a teacher or reviewer are going to ask.

Richard asks…

How does air pollution affect photosynthesis?

I need this as quick as possible… Can any one tell me a detailed but not textbook-ed situation or example of how air pollution affects photosynthesis and how it affects photosynthesis in plants?

mikey answers:

Well, smog can block out light that is needed for photosynthesis. I bet it also messes with the chemical reaction the plant goes through converting CO2 to sugars and oxygen.
Air pollution sometimes comes out of the sky with the rain as “acid rain.” This harms the leaves of a plant, which reduces how well it can conduct photosynthesis.

Robert asks…

Can green plants do photosynthesis with only green light?

Green plants are green because they reflect green light. So when put under green light they shouldn’t be able to undergo photosynthesis. However, assuming that there are carotenoids in the leaf, would it be able to go undergo photosynthesis and survive? Or would stored energy be used for photosynthesis? How would you know which one is responsible for photosynthesis?

mikey answers:

Carotenoids are really only good for absorbing the upper frequency band of the visible light spectrum (violets, blue, dark greens). Really, chlorophyll a is about as good as it gets when it comes to ‘smack bang in the middle’ green light – and even then its pretty darn inefficient. Have a squizz at this graph http://www.uic.edu/classes/bios/bios100/lecturesf04am/absorption-spectrum.jpg

As to whether a plant would be able to survive under green light alone, I’m not entirely sure. It would be able to undergo photosynthesis, but at a very slow rate. Whether this rate is high enough to sustain the plant would probably depend on the plant itself, and its relative concentrations of the different photosynthetic pigments.

Stored energy wouldn’t be used for photosynthesis, or at least the light reactions – note the light reactions are the ones that use light energy to *generate* ATP and NADPH. The dark reactions use these molecules to generate oxygen and sugars. Stored energy would most likely undergo respiration to generate energy from pre-existing sugars.

Sandra asks…

How do photosynthesis and respiration relate to the Greenhouse Effect?

There is current controversy as to whether the atmosphere is warming due to the burning of fossil fuels and the destruction of the rainforests (i.e., the Greenhouse Effect). How does photosynthesis and respiration relate to this controversy?

mikey answers:

Aerobic cellular respiration produces carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas, and thus would contribute to the Greenhouse Effect.
Photosynthesis removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (to make glucose and then cellulose among other things), and thus photosynthesis would reduce the Greenhouse Effect.

Removal of rainforest would tip the dynamic balance, putting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and reducing photosynthesis.

Your Questions About Pictures Of Snakes

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Mary asks…

Can you show me pictures of snakes So that I can find out what kind of snake I have and what to feed it?

mikey answers:

You should never have a snake if you are not bright enough to know what kind it is!!! Does it rattle it’s tail and try to bite you..If so just reach in and try to calm it by stroking it”s head!!! If it is a great big one, that seems to like to cuddle..Let it out of it’s cage and lay down by it..Cuddling will calm this type of snake!! If it is one that lifts half of it’s body up..and spreads his head and upper neck out to make it’s self look bigger, go behind it and try to grab it by the tail!! They like that!! Good Luck!! I hope I was of some help!!

Donald asks…

im tying to identify a snake i killed in central alabama i need pictures of snakes in alabama?

it was tan with brown spots and a black tail tip

mikey answers:

It was probably a midland brown snake which is nonpoisonous.

Lizzie asks…

How can I get rid of snakes living in my walls (there’s A LOT)?

Today we killed at least 6 snakes, and a few from before. I think there are more. They have nested in my wall (see pictures below) and I’m afraid they will continue to lay eggs and reproducing. If anyone could help me…
1. Find the number for Animal Control in Chicago, IL
2. Any tips for getting rid of these snakes
3. Identify these snakes – are they poisonous? (it may be hard to tell from the picture)
4. How to prevent snakes from coming back
5. Anything else I should know about

Please, and thank you (I have very serious ophidiophobia, fear of snakes)

Pictures:

P.S. they are very big, I would say the biggest we killed was at least a few feet long
Oh, and I’m not going to get a cat.
If this is in the real world? Quit drinking?

What’s that supposed to mean. I’m 15. And I’m researching the question for my parents.

mikey answers:

From the pictures, they look like gray rat snakes or chicken snakes as we in Texas call them. If this is what they are, they are not poisonous but they can start to stink! Do a search for Animal Control near Chicago, IL and yahoo should list the offices with the address and phone numbers. Animal Control should be able to tell you how to get rid of them and give advice on keeping them gone. One thing I know they’ll tell you to do is plug up that hole where they are in the picture. That’s how they get in your walls, from holes and cracks on the exterior. I’ve read that ferrets kill snakes but you probable don’t want that either since you said you don’t want a cat. At least you’re probably not seeing many rats! (also try and search “gray rat snake” and see if the results look like what you have. It’s hard to tell from your pictures but you should be able to tell since you’ve seen them first hand)

Paul asks…

Snakes Pictures?

Go to google or whatever and show me a picture of you favorite snake.

Have fun.
THESE ARE SOME OF THE SNAKES THAT I LIKE…

The first one is a Columbian Red-Tailed Boa (I’m going to get one), the second one is a Dumerils Ground Boa, most people think they have funny heads but I like them. The third one is a madagascan ground boa.

All of these look better when you seen them with your eyes… not on a computer screen.

Bye-Bye

Your Questions About Images Of America

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

James asks…

How do you feel about the image of America around the world right now?

I understand that many countries hate Americans, mostly because they hate our president and we are all lumped together. The war has caused a lot of damage in how other citizens of the world see us. How do you feel about it and do you think it can / will change in the future?

mikey answers:

“The right thing is not always the popular thing” — Ronald Reagan, after bombing Libya, effectively ending its terrorism spree. If opposing terrorists and locking them up in Gitmo makes us unpopular, so be it. Most of those that hate us do so because their socialst/fascist governments hate us, and they’re easily propagandized to.

William asks…

What do you think about body images in America today?

It seems that in so many ways women at least are pressured to be thin, but then at the same time there’s a “heavy is ok” phase going around through commercials and shows about loving being overweight. But they both seem like such twisted views–it’s like with models there are way too skinny girls or plus-size girls and no in-betweens. So maybe it’s the location where I’m at but when I look around I see women way too skinny or extremely overweight, both extremely unhealthy, and anyone in between is depressed about it all the time. But at the same time I know from personal experience that skinny women generally have a tainted view of themselves to begin with and in their minds there’s always more fat they need to lose. What do you think? Men how does this imaging affect you or doesn’t it? Any imput is appreciated…

mikey answers:

I think it doesn’t matter who you are, super skinny size zero or super plus size obese woman, everyone is thinking the same thing:

**I’m too fat.

I don’t think men are to blame for this warped view of the ideal woman. I pretty much solely blame the media. But everyone has those demons in the closet that are the cause for their distress and over/under-eating. Boyfriends, lack of love, family problems, depression, media, stress.

Gee-wizz, the world sucks!

Linda asks…

Why does the world dislike the United States of America?

As the war in Iraq continues for a fourth year, the global image of America has slipped further, even among publics in countries closely allied with the United States, a new global opinion poll has found.

Favorable views of the United States dropped sharply over the past year in Spain, where only 23 percent now say they have a positive opinion, down from 41 percent in 2005, according to the survey, which was carried out in 15 nations this spring by the Pew Research Center. In Britain, Washington’s closest ally in the Iraq war, positive views of America have remained in the mid-50s in the past two years, still down sharply from 75 percent in 2002.

Other countries throughout the world have have little or no repect for the United States due to the Iraq war and the lies the Government told. The Insurgents have more respect in the world than Bush and his supporters. The United States will end up losing the war on terrorism much like the war they lost in Vietnam.

mikey answers:

What war on terrorism?
The United States of America are acting as terrorists themselves insisting on that stupid war.

Sharon asks…

Why are Americans allowing Bush and his maffia administration..to ruin the great image America once had?

I agree with Carter he is the WORST PRESIDENT this country ever had for over a centrury, Nixon got nothing on him!
All you NeoCons out there who is going to defend him to the very end …YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF, putting political agenda above human decensy.

mikey answers:

Most Americans are so ignorant they wouldn’t even recognize the Bill of Rights if they saw it. Consequently, they don’t understand when it’s being taken away from them. Some even applaud sick and misguided legislation like the Patriot Act and the repeated attempts at passing a flag burning amendment. These are the same kind of people who applauded Hitler’s rise to power. As long as they’re fooled into thinking they’re safer somehow, they think the end justifies the means even if they lose everything our forefathers fought for in the Revolutionary War.

Helen asks…

Do you know any rock songs that creates a false image on America and its people.?

Your Questions About Photoshop Brushes

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Ken asks…

What kind of photoshop brushes should i use for coloring anime/manga pictures?

I’ve been looking for forever for the type of brushes i would need for coloring my anime pictures in photoshop without success. Can someone please tell me where to find a brush like that or how to make it?

mikey answers:

It depends. What kind of texture are you trying to create?

Meago uses a modified brush to CG shade. Here’s her tutorial to show you what brush I’m referring to:

Robert asks…

Can adobe photoshop brushes work for photoshop elements?

I know, stupid question
But im not quite sure.
Im just curious if adobe photoshop brushes, will work for photshop elements 7.
7 is the newest one, by the way.

I know its photoshop cs4, as well.

Im just curious, can, and will they work on elements
and if so, could you help me out with how that would, and could work?

mikey answers:

Unfortunately, yes, Photoshop brushes do work in Elements and can become addicting. (I just downloaded 2 really cute sets of Easter Bunny brushes and a set of custom shapes.)

It’s also unfortunate that they’re easy to install into Elements. I have PSE6 but installing hasn’t changed too much in the recent versions. You’ll download a zip folder. I usually download the folder to my Desktop so I won’t have to hunt for it. Right click on it and click on Extract All.

Find the extracted folder, right click on it and click Copy. (Don’t open it, just right click on the folder.)

You use Windows Explorer to put the extracted folder into PSE’s Brushes folder. I open Documents and use the Windows Explorer on its left side. Scroll down to Computer and click the +, then click the + next to C:, Click the + next to Program Files, then the + next to Adobe, the + next to Photoshop Elements 7.0. Scroll down and click the + next to Presets and scroll down to Brushes. Click it to open, right click on an empty space in the white area over to the right of WE in area that’s showing the files….make sure you haven’t clicked on any of the files or folders that are showing, and click Paste. Done!

When you’re using the Brush Tool in PSE, go up to the Brush Selector in the Options Bar above the workspace and click to open it. Up at the top of the dropdown is a box showing the brush set that’s displayed, click to open it and scroll down until you see the name of your new brush set and click on it to load it. If the thumbnails are too small to see well: over on the right side of the Brush Selector are two little arrows. Click on them and at the top of the dropdown that appears, you can choose a larger size thumbnail. I almost went blind until I discovered this;)

The neat thing about the brushes is that not only can you paint and make designs with them but you can choose special brushes when you’re using the Eraser Tool, too, and use the brushes to remove color in a pattern.

Have fun! Oh, and don’t forget to make a folder to store the zip files and extracted folders. Back this folder up every once and awhile and, if anything ever happens to your computer or if you ever have to uninstall/reinstall the program, you’ve still got them and don’t have to go hunting for them.

Helen asks…

How do you upload multiple Photoshop brushes at once?

I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended addition and uploading brushes is always a hassle.
On occasion I’ll have an issue or error that causes all my uploaded brushes and patterns to erase. My problem is, I simply hate having to upload almost 200 hundred sets of brushes one at a time everytime this problem occurs.

My question is, is there a way to upload several brushes at once? And if there is, how do you do it?

Intelligent answers only please, and DO be discriptive on how to do it.

mikey answers:

Select brush
where you adjust the brush size click on that (one on the upper tool bar)
their is a small sign in a cicle like this <
click on that
load brushes
put all the brushes in a folder and select that folder and load all the brushes would be loaded.

Laura asks…

How do I make Photoshop Brushes like the ones on Deviantart?

I’ve been on youtube and I’ve watched a few videos on how to make a photoshop brush, but they’re all tutorials on how to make a black and white brush! I wanted to know how to make brushes like the ones you can save on Deviantart.com, if that’s possible?
Thanks SO MUCH to anyone who can tell me how. (:
Edit: I just want to know how to save an already colored brush, and not black and white.

mikey answers:

You need Adobe Photoshop or Camtasia to have options to select a brush.

Michael asks…

How to offer Photoshop brushes and patterns to web guests?

I want to know how to offer Photoshop brushes and patterns to my website guests. How do I post them, what files do I save them in so when people download them they receive them as the appropriate files? BRUSHES/PATTERNS, etc.

mikey answers:

You could just save the brush set or pattern and copy it to a .zip file upload that to your site through ftp(or however you upload it) and .zip extensions are always set to download upon visit to the file url via web browser.

Instructions:
# On Windows XP machines:

1. Start Windows Explorer (right-click the Start menu, then choose Explore).
2. Navigate to the folder in which you want to create a .zip file.
3. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Compressed (zipped) Folder. Type a name for the new folder, and then press ENTER.
4. Using Windows Explorer, drag any files you wish to place into the .zip file.

# Using Winzip:

Winzip is an application that makes .zip files. You can download Winzip for your home PC from www.winzip.com.

1. Start up Winzip.
2. Click “I agree”.
3. Click the New button (upper left corner of the Winzip window). You will see a window titled New archive.
4. Select the folder where you wish to store the archive, by using the folder navigation box in the upper portion of the New archive window.
5. Name the archive, by typing a name into the File name textbox in the lower portion of the New archive window.
6. Click the OK button. This should cause a new window to be displayed, called Add.
7. In the Add window, select those files that you wish to place in the archive, by first using the folder navigation box, and then clicking on those files you wish to add. You can select more than one file by holding down the Ctrl key on the keyboard when you click on each file name.
8. After you have selected all the files to include in the archive, click Add.
9. Exit Winzip.

Your Questions About Pictures Of Animals

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Chris asks…

Do you think if billboards were changed from selling things to pictures of animals, people would smile more?

Instead of pictures of shoes on buses, have animals etc.

Looking at animals makes people happy. Maybe if they swapped advertisements for animal or human baby pictures. People would smile more.
I dunno who would pay for it, don’t burst my bubble please!

mikey answers:

Billboards definitely have an impact on people.

Our shelter had one up for about 6 months (created, sponsored & paid for by the ASPCA)…it showed about 15 dogs in cages, all looking very sad, with the tagline, “fix them or kill them, it’s your choice.” some people called to complain about how bad the boards were…but there was no getting around the fact that our adoption rates went up almost 25% during that time. Giant signs attract attention.

So, if i had to choose between a billboard with a car on it or a billboard with puppies tumbling about in the grass, i’d go for the pups every time.

Lisa asks…

what are the big blankets called with pictures of animals on them?

They are usually pictures of animals, but I have seen playboy bunny, etc. They are huge, and very warm. They sell for about $30-$50 depending on where you get them. I was wondering if there was a specific name for them, or anyone has any sites to purchase them?

mikey answers:

Well i have a one with a wolf on it on my bed. What there called is “mink blankets” oh so warm and oh so good.

Definatly worth buying

hope this helps

Sharon asks…

How to take pictures of animals without it being cliche?

I want to take pictures of my two dogs, but I don’t want it to be the same old cliche pictures of dogs doing something kind of cute.

I want to take interesting PHOTGRAPHY of my dogs, not just semi cute pictures of them.

Thanks.

mikey answers:

I applaud your inquisitive nature, this is how you learn. First, don’t shoot downwards but get eye level. Don’t crop off important parts like half ears, etc.. Pet portraits are like people portraits, they can be formal or informal but lighting is important as is the use of the right lens. Do not get close with a wide angle, but stay back and zoom in with the lens for better facial compression.

Your Questions About Images Of The Past

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Sharon asks…

How do you past background images in your myspace blog?

I have tried pasting it at the top of the blog, and upon review it shows the source code in the blog, not the image. I have tried pasting it at the bottom of the blog’s body and upon review it only shows the advertising .gif image but no background image.

mikey answers:

I’ve never wanted a background for just one, individual entry, so if that is what you want I don’t think I can help through Y!A. However, if you want the whole blog w/ that background image just go into “Manage Blog” > “Customize Blog” and scroll down a bit. There should be some Background Options, and one of them is the background image where you can place the link to your image there. It’ll effect the entire blog though, which works if that’s what you want I guess.

Joseph asks…

Painting of an old man playing cards with images from his past?

Okay, so a few weeks ago I heard about this painting and I have no idea what it’s called. It’s apparently of an old man sitting at a table playing cards but on the cards are images from his past and they’re supposed to represent his memories. I was wondering if anyone knew what the painting is called because I’ve been thinking about using it in a poem or something. Thanks a lot!

mikey answers:

Idk

Donna asks…

If a photography agency has allowed us to use their images in the past, can that set a precident?

We are a company that has used the same photography and design agency many years to produce work for us. Although they own the copyright, they have allowed us to use these images for pretty much whatever we want, without additional charge. The agency now want to charge us for each usage.
Given the way the contract has been operated in the past, does that set any kind of precident or can we still be forced to pay?

mikey answers:

The use of the photographs are subject to the stipulations in the contract. Thus, the agency can validly collect from you based on the agreed amount per contract.

John asks…

how do you feel about old images of war?

How do you feel when looking at images of past wars like world war I and II etc? do you think that continued exposure to this images have deadened their effect and meaning are they now just cliches frozen in time? any can we as a second/third/fourth generation truly understand and morn the horrors that these images present? Will future generations feel the same about wars like Iraq for example?

mikey answers:

Do people still remember battle of Rome 100 B.C? No. The same horror image was there, people dying, blood, people torn into pieces, taken prisoners and tortured. All these things happened years before WWI and WWII, do we still remember it?
No, because if we did WWI and WWII can never happen. There are hundreds of war that happened before WWI and WWII, they’re forgotten aren’t they? Even though there were the same horrors? To us, this battle in Rome is now just a battle, it doesn’t mean a thing.
Sure there weren’t films back then, but memories of the war can’t be glory, no not for the soldiers. History repeats itself, even if people understood it.
There must be a time when we forget the pains of war, the sufferings and start a war again. There will be a time when our future generations sees the image, and it doesn’t mean much for them. They won’t morn the horrors these images represents. To them, it’s just history.

Robert asks…

Could someday be invented an artifact that captures images of the past?

Will it be possible someday to invent an artifact that can obtain images and sounds of past events? I wish I had it!

mikey answers:

There is a device that captures images of the past – it is called a TELESCOPE!

When you look through a telescope at a galaxy 100 light years away, you are seeing that galaxy as it was 100 years ago!
